Lazarus Tree 03:17
Honey-drunk all sheets to the wind, Waiting for the Green Man to come back again Ground splits open, who do I see... Up come little Persephone She comes for the lovers, her breath is the spring Blowing her sweet kisses on the Lazarus Tree It's seen a hundred generations of man come and go It's seen flood it's seen fire but its roots still grow Some have tried to steal its treasures, as mankind often does But it comes back stronger than it ever was Men will always fight and die pretending they are free Falling like the blossoms of the Lazarus Tree Been cut, been axed, been burned but it keeps coming back Now some might see their fortunes in the leaves of their tea I see the future in the limbs of the Lazarus Tree Murder of crows staring down at me, from the cooked old branches of the Lazarus Tree

There's more diamonds baby, in our dreams than hidden pearls in the sea Don't go searching for signs in the stars unless you like what you see Ever feel like you've been here before, passing time in your head Cutting squares from a quilted sky, trying to make your own bed I've got a life full of yesterdays, a head full of tomorrows Everything in between is ours, never let that go Walking blind through this human maze trying to find someone We all look up to the same blue sky, the same moon, the same sun Maybe we're just made up of what everyone has lost You cant hold on to what you haven't got

Distilled 03:32
All your big ideas in flames, each a nail in your coffin brain Work for illusions and linger on Is it shadow or is it shade, how long since the band has played? Sing me that old song one more time How many times will you rise up again How many times will you return How many times will we go around again In the end we move the same She sleeps in alkahest, distilled like all the rest Still looking for that mystery Cut it up and rearrange youth really shows your age Lost like a dream song in the night

about

To The Earth is James Keyes' 4th album and unlike the previous three, will be digital only and released exclusively on Bandcamp.

"Since we're not bound by physical releases or time anymore I thought it would be fun to create a living album" says Keyes. To The Earth will be released in four parts, four songs each on solstices and equinoxes over the course of one year.

September 22, 2016 - Volume 1, Autumnal
December 21, 2016 - Volume 2, Hibernal
March 20, 2017 - Volume 3, Vernal
June 21, 2017 - Volume 4, Estival

Like the title indicates, To The Earth finds Keyes getting back to his roots. Literally. Recorded in his barn theses new songs have a rustic dream-like quality to them and are all connected to the seasons, the earth and the world around him. Having moved from the city to the country after his last release, 2013's The Middle, this new batch of songs is inspired by the cycles of life found in nature. Time, life, death and rebirth are all reoccurring themes in the lyrics.
