To The Earth (Volume I, Autumnal)

by James Keyes

1.
I woke up this morning and I ran out of time Got too much to do, too much on my mind I'm lost in the noise of the people all around here Got to find my way back to the earth and the water Got dreams bigger than I can sleep at night Return to the rhythm and I'll feel alright Gone Circadian There's more to the world than the glow in your hand Fade out the false lights and listen again Lightning is gone in the blink of an eye West rolls the rain in the wine wet sky Chase your shadows around the sun Turn your back on what you've become Get your hands back in the Earth Where do you come from Where do you go Gone Circadian
2.
When the daystar set the night lights all shone bright But when the blood moon rose she eclipsed them all He heard a sea sick serenade out over the water Never trust the one who sings the sirens song You know it's always feast or famine I don't know no fortune or fame Just those two hands keep on spinning Round and round again... In the shadow of our hearts is where we hide In the shade of love is where we wait In the red of the evening you burn for your kiss Set your heart on fire with the breath of the arsonist Ive been drinking Muddy Water and Howling like a Wolf all night and day In the Shining Penny Cemetery where the paupers lay But when he bosun calls and I hear the ships bells ringing... Shore leave's over boys but I'll be back some day

To the Earth 05:12
To the Earth, to the Earth Everything goes back to the Earth You're a seed, you're a weed Tell her what you want and she'll give you what you need He was a right raised man, Some do what they want, some do what they can You can hold or you can show Something's gotta give I cant give no more What do you give, what do you want? What do you get when it's all for not? You're the hoax, you're the lie You're all that there is when nobody asks why Your answers are in the shape of things to come Your endless chances are less by one I'm ahead, I'm behind I'm not me I'm just my mind My 9 lives are getting tired When you find God will you throw him to the lions? You were born, raised and fell While this whole mad shit house belonged to someone else While you can wait, you can't miss February keeps you from the Lion's kiss Live fat, hog smile You can have it all but there's beauty in denial Look up any time and marvel at the endless palette in the sky The luck of youth is wearing thin Petals blow off in the autumn wind Seek truth, the light of day While primadonna pettifoggers take it away Clear the path, lose the trail Never gonna learn if you're never gonna fail I had a name when I was young Now it's all gone it's just zeros and ones The well is drying up, penny has poisoned to the very last drop Truth fades over time, maybe we're all just looking for a better lie You're answers are in the shape of things to come You're endless chances are less by one The moon is the eye that she sees me from

about

To The Earth is James Keyes' 4th album and unlike the previous three, will be digital only and released exclusively on Bandcamp.

"Since we're not bound by physical releases or time anymore I thought it would be fun to create a living album" says Keyes. To The Earth will be released in four parts, four songs each on solstices and equinoxes over the course of one year.

September 22, 2016 - Volume 1, Autumnal
December 21, 2016 - Volume 2, Hibernal
March 20, 2017 - Volume 3, Vernal
June 21, 2017 - Volume 4, Estival

Like the title indicates, To The Earth finds Keyes getting back to his roots. Literally. Recorded in his barn theses new songs have a rustic dream-like quality to them and are all connected to the seasons, the earth and the world around him. Having moved from the city to the country after his last release, 2013's The Middle, this new batch of songs is inspired by the cycles of life found in nature. Time, life, death and rebirth are all reoccurring themes in the lyrics.

Curious yet?
